It's a Miracle!

We are at home! Clayton called me early Tuesday morning while we were eating breakfast and told me to get to the hospital that he was being released! I couldn't believe it! We got his RX filled, gathered him up some clothes for the trip and we left yesterday morning! Was a long trip, but we made it OK! I am so happy to have him home with me! He is going to have a long recovery, Doc says no contact sports, no 4-wheelers, nothing where there is a chance of being hit in the head for 1 year! Doc said one small blow to the head and it could be fatal! He still has a lot of swelling on the right side of his head Doc says will go away soon. When Clayton's med's wear off he starts having severe headaches! This morning at 4:45 am he said his whole body was in pain. He has been on so much pain med's he hasn't realize how bad he is hurt!

Does anyone have any advise on how to make a 19 year take it easy for 1 year? I hope this post makes some sense, it's been hard for me to concentrate the last few days! Again, I want to thank everyone for their concern and the out pouring of offers to help me out while in Texas! There is nothing better than a great group of blogging friends! Thank you so much!

I suggest a leash, harness and a beeper if his body goes into motion any faster than 1 mile and hour. I know a it's little restrictive-but what's a mother to do? Just kidding! I hope his experienc will help moderate his need to seek out the thrill of all things moving fast. Spoken form a mother who has survived her son being 19!

Glad you are home safe and sound. As for keeping Clayton quiet for a year---I haven't found a way to keep any man quiet for any amount of time! He will probably know when he is overdoing it. Don't think the prayers will stop just because you are home. God is good--all the time.

glad he will be OK. boy they got him fixed up quick. Glad you have him home with you to recover. How to keep him quiet for a year???? Just remind him that 'he could die' if he doesn't listen to Mom, and that you've worked too hard to get him to this point. :)
Again, PTL that he is doing so well.

Good luck on keeping him still! You may until the pains are all gone...after that...probably won't be able to keep him down. My son has done all the 4 wheeler, motorcycle, ski stuff, and been hurt very badly...in a full body cast for 3 months after one wreck....I tried to make him promise that was the last time..HA. They just think they are invincible. Sure keeps us moms on our knees. Praise God for His blessings and grace. All things considered, the rest is a piece of cake after what he's been through. I'll continue to keep him in my prayers.
Hugs,
Sandra

T, Maybe you could get him some meditation tapes or have him see someone who does guided meditations. It really helps to slow a person down and relax them. Does he read? what about books on tape if he doesn't like to read. He could take up a hobby, now don't laugh, remember when Rosie Grear did needlepoint? Maybe Clayton could paint or something.

Hi sweetie~

So glad to hear that all of you are doing so good!

Our youngest son had a severe head injury (14) the summer before last while at camp. He too, could not be released to play football or any contact sports for a year. And even after a year, will get a headache in the back of his head where he fell on a concrete wall, every now and then.

At 14, and now 15...a year later he still 'works out' but no longer has interest in football. He has just has realized that there is more in life than playing football or in your case...4 wheelers! :)

Trust me if a 15 year old can do this...I have total confidence that your sweet son can also!

Ya just have to "trust" him...and I promise, the "worrying" when he is out of site will ease! :) I know how you felt when you "got the call" that a mother fears! :) Proud of you!

Praise God for answered prayers. I'm not sure how to slow down someone that young.....I'll pray about that too.

The old saying is "You can't keep a good man down" so I'm guessing that you will have your hands full keeping him quiet. God has truly blessed your family. So happy for you.

What a praise report! I am going to thank God right now for his faithfulness! I hate to say it, but hopefully the fear of a fatal blow to the head will keep him in check! But that is why the young and fearless join the service...

Thank God...all the prayers have been heard & answered!! So happy that Clayton is home & on the mend. Keeping a 19 year old down? That's a fine question...duct tape; ankle ball, chain & monitor; lock on the bedroom door? Nah...none of these will work...we just need to add more prayers & know that your Clayton is an intelligent young man who will remember how close this call truly was. We can't wrap 'em up in cotton to keep 'em safe...they still have to fly! Have a wonderful Friday, and beyond! *elaine*

What wonderful news!! I am so happy for you and your family. Your son is one of the lucky ones to be doing this well this fast. I'm sure we can all come up with some ideas to keep him busy at home, maybe something he can do on the computer. What a relief - so happy to hear this news!!
