Meet Chef Sarah

For several months I have talked about my youngest daughter going to school to be a
Chef!
She is almost finished, about 4 more weeks. She would have already graduated, but she had to go back this semester for one class! :( Anyway, last semester she had to do an internship for a grade. Means she didn't get paid a dime for all her hard work! She did her internship at a
5 star restaurant,
Corbetts!
Now mind you I have never set foot in a 5 star restaurant in my life! She did such a good job for her internship, they gave her a 9 course tasting for two! Oh boy, and I was the lucky one that she took with her! The meal was amazing! I ate things I have never put in my mouth before.

The kitchen there was phenomenal, I have never seen a kitchen in a restaurant that was so clean and organized! Sarah enjoyed her time there and she cried when it was time to leave! They offered her a job, but the restaurant is over an hour drive from where we live, and they keep a lot of late nights (2am before she arrived home many times) and that doesn't work when you are a single parent with an 8 yr old!

This was our menu for the night.
At the top in red letters reads:
Congratulations Sarah Trulock
First Sullivan Intern to receive an A!

By the way Sullivan is where Emeril went to school!

She cried like a baby when she read that!

The dessert got cut off the scan!
Black Forrest Cake
Chocolate Genoise, Amarena Cherry Ganache
Cherry Ice Cream and Sweet Creme Fraiche

This is my sweet girl,
she don't even weigh a 100lbs soaking wet!

Sarah and the Executive Chef at Corbetts!
Tony York, her boss now, is in the background.
He owns Tony Yorks on Main in Historic Glendale

You can tell she feels right at home here!

You can see how small Sarah is!
She didn't get if from me! Ha!

Look how clean this place is!

Organized!

I think I would even like to work here!

Sarah is so small, she said she couldn't even reach
these plates on top of the work station!

Sarah and another chef!
So young!

This is Sarah's favorite server!

This picture is not very good, it was pitch black outside!
Needless to say I am very proud of my baby girl! She has done me proud! She had a baby at 16, but she never let that hold her back, she graduated high school, (she is also a hairdresser!). She loves her son and he loves her! They are growing up together (he's 8 now) and she is setting a fine example for him! By the way she borrowed all the money to go to school on her own! Not cheap! $45,000!
Mommy is so proud of you Sarah, sorry I just can't seem to say it enough! And I love you very much, like mommy always said
(you can do anything you set you mind to do!)

Hi Theresa , Your daughter is a strong , beautiful young woman. No wonder you are so proud of her. I think when you know you are loved you can do anything you set your mind to. You can tell Sarah is very loved! I was 16 when my daughter was born. I wasn't a single Mom but there was still alot of hurdles to get by. My daughter is now a mama , too , and her children adore her. I don't think being a Mom is about how old you are but about how giving you are. I've known grown women who shouldn't have pets let alone a child. You can't be a mom and be selfish! Tell Sarah congratulations from me ,Sue

Fantastic & congratulations to Sarah! We have a daughter that went through cooking school and I can attest that it isn't a picnic! Would love to have been a little mouse in the corner tasting all that yummy food but I know I would have been caught in a 5*!

I never realized how hard chefs work and how much talent is required to be a chef until I started watching programs like Top Chef and some of Gordon Ramsey's shows. Knowing that, my reaction to your daughter's achievement is WOW! Pretty darned fabulous!! And doing all that as a single mom too? Pretty darned fabulous and spectacular!!

Mom I know that it took a lot of blood sweat and tears to raise me but you did it gracefully. Many of times I have wondered how you did and how in the hell you could put up with all that crap I put you through. Knowing now being a mother myself there is nothing your kids can do wrong. I never wanted to be like you but the truth of the matter is I am just like you. You mother made me the woman I am today. I never had to prove myself to you, and still you loved me,Amanda,Clayto with all your heart. You mother set the example for us and that is how I know I can raise my son in confidense. And yes you can do anything you set your mind too, and now mom it is time that you shined and start the life you dream of. Mom you are my best friend and I love you very much. We never had money growing up but you always loved us and that is all that matters. So thank you for everything and this is not going to be your last blog about me. I have tons instore for the whole world to see. You can bet money on that. Love you bunches and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

Well TOT, I had it all planned out in my head what I was going to write here, then I got to OBW's post and lost it. What a girl and what a momma!!! Y'all just put it all out there and are not afraid to try and say what you feel! Beautiful, just beautiful!
I was going to say that I checked out Corbett's and what an honor for her to be asked to join the staff there, but I think God has bigger things in store for her and you!

I usually say I hate skinny people like that! but I guess I can't say that about Chef Sarah!. I know how proud you must be of her. It is awesome to know that there are still younger ones that stay focused and follow their dreams. Good luck in Brimfield--hope you are feeling better. Nothing worse than a spring-summer cold!
